The Sandal That Fits You at 9am — and Still Fits at 3pm
Most sandals are either too tight or too loose by afternoon. Here's what adjustability actually means in a walking sandal — and why it matters more than you'd expect.

Your feet are not the same size at 9am that they are at 3pm. That's not unusual — it's simply how feet work. Over the course of a day, particularly in warmer weather, feet naturally expand slightly from activity and heat. A sandal that fits perfectly when you put it on in the morning can feel uncomfortably tight by the time you're driving home from an afternoon errand.
Most sandals don't account for this. They're sized once — and that's it. An adjustable wide-fit walking sandal changes that. Multiple strap points let you dial in the fit in the morning and loosen slightly when your foot needs more room later in the day, all without having to change shoes.
At HWY Physical Therapy, we carry these sandals because they answer a very practical question: what do you wear in warmer months that actually stays comfortable all day?

Why Your Sandal Fit at 9am Isn't Your Fit at 3pm
Most people don't think about how much their foot changes shape over the course of a day. But it does — and if you've ever taken your shoes off at the end of the day and felt immediate relief, you've felt the result of that change in real time.
Feet expand in warm weather, during physical activity, and after extended periods of standing. A sandal with fixed straps that felt fine when you left the house can quietly cause discomfort as the day goes on — not dramatically, but enough that you're thinking about your feet instead of what you're doing.
Footwear that adapts to your foot — rather than forcing your foot to adapt to it — is a small change that shows up in how you feel by the end of the day, and how often you actually want to go out and stay active.
What Makes This Sandal Different
These aren't just sandals with velcro — the adjustability is built into multiple points so the fit actually responds to your foot rather than just accommodating a general size range.
🔧
Multi-Point Adjustable Straps
Dial in your fit in the morning and loosen slightly if you need more room later in the day — without having to switch shoes or deal with a strap that digs in as the day goes on.
👣
Wide Toe Box Footbed
Designed with a naturally wide footbed so your toes have room to sit and spread slightly — rather than being pressed together the way a narrower sandal creates pressure across the front of the foot.
🛡️
Grippy Non-Slip Outsole
Confident traction on both indoor floors and outdoor pavement — not just smooth-soled like many fashion sandals. You stay stable on the surfaces you actually walk on, not just ones you pose on.
💨
Open Breathable Upper
Keeps air moving around your foot throughout the day — especially valuable during Salem's warmer summer months when enclosed footwear becomes uncomfortable by mid-morning.
What It Feels Like to Wear These
The first thing most patients notice is how easy they are to put on. No bending down to tie laces, no pulling at a stiff heel — you adjust the straps and you're ready. For a lot of people, that ease of getting in and out of a shoe matters more than they'd admitted before trying it.
The second thing they notice is how the adjustability actually works in practice. A quick loosening of the front strap in the afternoon takes two seconds and makes the rest of the day noticeably more comfortable. It's a small thing, but it's the kind of small thing that adds up when you're living actively.

How to Fit These Properly
1
When you first try them on, walk around for a few minutes before settling on your strap positions — your foot needs a moment to settle into the footbed.
2
The right fit feels secure but not tight. There should be no slipping at the heel, and your toes should reach but not hang over the edge of the footbed.
3
Try wearing them for a half-day before a full day outing — especially if you're new to this style or sandals with more structure than you're used to.

I was always switching between sandals because nothing fit right all day. These are the first pair I've worn from morning to evening without wanting to take them off. The straps make all the difference — I just loosen them a little after lunch and I'm good.
Common Questions
How do I find the right strap tightness?+
When you try them on, walk around for a few minutes before settling on a strap position. A well-fitted sandal should feel snug but not tight — your heel shouldn't lift out with each step, and no strap should be pressing into the top of your foot. Come in and we'll help you dial it in before you buy.
Are these suitable for both indoor and outdoor use?+
Yes. The non-slip outsole handles both smooth indoor floors and outdoor pavement confidently. These aren't designed for rugged trail use, but everything from grocery store floors to paved park paths is well within their range.
What's the difference between a wide-fit and a standard-fit sandal?+
A wide-fit sandal has a broader footbed through the toe box area — shaped to match a naturally wider foot rather than a narrower standard template. If you've ever felt your toes hanging slightly over the edge of a sandal, or felt compression across the widest part of your foot, a wide-fit footbed typically solves both. We can check in person when you come in.
Can I wear these with socks?+
You can, though most patients wear them without. If you prefer socks for warmth or comfort, the straps adjust to accommodate the added layer — just make sure to size the fit with socks on if that's how you plan to wear them regularly.
How do I know what size to get?+
Come in and try them on. With sandals especially, the footbed shape matters as much as the length — and seeing how the straps sit on your specific foot gives you a much better sense of fit than a size number alone. Our team will help you get it right.
Try Before You Buy — We Mean It
With adjustable footwear, there's a right fit and a wrong fit — and the difference is easy to spot in person but impossible to know from a photo. We'd rather you walk around the clinic in these, spend ten minutes adjusting the straps, and leave knowing they're right for you.
Our Adjustable Wide Fit Walking Sandals are available to try on and purchase in person at the clinic inside Center 50+ in Salem. Come in any time during clinic hours and our team will help you find the right fit.
